Increases Bone Mass:


“31 trials of oestrogen therapy – 2o of which involved calcium supplements of about 1200mg/day – were analyzed together with calcitonin trials. Bone mass at all body sites examined in the studies rose markedly when calcium were added to either antiresorptive therapy”


The NOF recommends that :


All adults receive at least 1200mg/d of elemental calcium the typical diet provides less than 600mg/d. Increase the dietary calcium is the first – line approach but calcium supplements should be used when an adequate dietary intake cannot be achieved.
